A quick field check

How to measure yourself.

A flexible tape measure and a favorite garment are enough. Keep the tape level, do not pull it tight, and record your measurement to the nearest quarter inch.

Chest

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, passing under your arms and across your shoulder blades. Keep it horizontal and comfortably loose. Compare that body measurement with the fit guidance for the garment you are considering.

Body length

Lay a similar shirt or layer flat. Start at the highest point of the shoulder beside the collar and run the tape straight down to the bottom hem. Use that garment length to compare with the chart’s body-length column.

Sleeve

For a long-sleeve layer, start at the center back of the neck, measure over the shoulder, and continue to the sleeve hem. For a set-in sleeve, measure from the top of the sleeve seam to the cuff. Keep the garment relaxed rather than stretched.

Two exceptions: The cap is one size with an adjustable strap, so measure around your head about 1 inch above your ears and across your forehead; its chest, body-length, sleeve, and weight fields are marked N/A. Garment weight is fabric weight in oz/yd², not a body measurement and not the finished item’s shipping weight.
